In 1995, the Labour Court recommended that employees of AIB Finance and Leasing accept relocation to Sandyford, with individual issues handled sensitively. The recommendation was signed on 17 November 1995. The dispute concerned 10 staff based in Cork, Waterford, Galway and Sligo whose jobs were being centralised in Sandyford. AIB Finance and Leasing offered relocation packages or severance, while the Irish Bank Officials Association argued that staff should have local alternatives, including transfers within the wider group. The Court accepted that transfers were inherent in this part of the business and found insufficient grounds to recommend changing the established practice. It recommended that the company handle each employee’s circumstances sensitively, particularly the timing of transfers, and consider the group when advertising posts in their former areas.
