The Labour Court has rejected Máire Aherne’s appeal alleging that the National Council For Special Education penalised her with performance management and disciplinary warnings after she raised safety concerns about in-person school visits. The Court signed its decision on 24 August 2026.
Aherne said the measures were retaliation; the Council said they followed her refusal to carry out assigned tasks. The Court was not satisfied that the process was caused by her safety concerns and considered the Council’s response proportionate. It upheld the Adjudication Officer’s decision.
