The Labour Court has awarded Pauline Walsh €3,000 after finding that Bausch Health Ireland Limited discriminated against her on the age ground when her employment ended at 66. The determination was signed on 20 July 2026, and set aside an earlier decision that had rejected her complaint.
Walsh, who had worked for the company since 2002, alleged that the company refused to extend her one-year post-retirement contract because of her age, while another employee was allowed to work until 67. The company said its retirement policy served workforce planning and other aims. The Court accepted workforce planning as a legitimate aim but found the company had not explained why a 12-month contract and its refusal to renew were necessary, or why the other employee was treated differently.
