The Labour Court recommended that Irish Rail’s disciplinary appeal findings stand in a dispute brought by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over action against a locomotive driver. The recommendation was dated 23 April 1992. The driver received a caution after refusing to operate a mail train from Athlone to Galway in September 1989. He later received a one-day suspension and warning after failing to submit a written report about carriage damage in May 1990. The union said he had been unfairly treated. The Court found that the disciplinary outcomes were not unfair in either incident.
