WRC rejects disability and gender discrimination complaints over driving-licence renewal

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Wayne Edward Nash was not discriminated against by the Road Safety Authority when he could not renew his driving licence at its Athlone centre. The decision was dated 16 January 2024.

Nash said he could not obtain a Payzone voucher, was refused when he offered cash, and was asked to leave. The RSA said its payment rules applied to all customers and that it could not accept cash. The adjudicator found no evidence that the payment policy was applied differently because of disability, or that the RSA knew of a need for specific accommodation. The gender complaint, based on Nash’s clothing, was also rejected.
