WRC finds Matrix Recruitment Group redundancy dismissal was fair

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Suzanne Dunne was not unfairly dismissed by Matrix Recruitment Group, accepting that a genuine redundancy situation existed and that an alternative role offered to her was at an equivalent level. The decision was dated 27 October 2022. The company said a downturn in business led it to make Dunne’s branch manager role redundant and that she declined an alternative position. Dunne argued the redundancy was not genuine and that the proposed role was a demotion. The adjudicator accepted the company had demonstrated a redundancy situation and found that the offered role had the same terms and conditions as her existing position. The company said it paid her €16,922 in statutory redundancy.
