The Workplace Relations Commission found Caroline Browne’s unfair dismissal complaint against Aib Allied Irish Banks was not well founded. Adjudication Officer Niamh O’Carroll dated the decision 23 September 2026.

Browne argued the bank should have waited for an exam result and considered giving her more time or another role. Aib said the required accreditation was a condition of her regulated job and that she had not obtained it within two years.

The WRC found Browne knew the requirement and the consequences of failing to meet it, and had received support and extra time. It concluded the bank’s disciplinary process and appeal were fair, and that dismissal was within the range of reasonable responses. The complaint failed on its merits.
