In 1996, the Labour Court recommended a package of changes to terms for workers at Hoyer (Ireland) Ltd. It recommended an extra holiday day in 1996 and another in 1997, continuation of the 10% shift premium, and holiday pay based on basic pay, shift premium and £75.00. The Court also recommended sick pay in line with the company’s proposals, an overnight allowance of £30.00, mileage payment of 36p and negotiations on a pension scheme. It did not recommend an increase in basic pay or concession of the overalls-cleaning claim. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought better leave, pension, pay and allowance terms; Hoyer said the claims would increase costs in a competitive market. The recommendation was dated 18 June 1996.
