The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Elaine Godkin €7,500 after upholding her unfair-dismissal complaint against Port Walls Ltd over the handling of her redundancy. Adjudication Officer Pat Brady’s decision is dated 5 August 2026. The adjudicator found that Godkin was told of the proposed redundancy at a surprise meeting, without formal written notice of its purpose or advice that she could bring a companion.

Port Walls said it needed an experienced document controller for changed compliance work and that Godkin lacked the required experience. The adjudicator accepted that a new role requiring technical expertise existed, but found that the process lacked procedural fairness, including meaningful consultation and a proper explanation of the role. The award was compensation for losses attributable to dismissal; the adjudicator took the redundancy payment into account and excluded travel expenses.
