Labour Court recommends Ballyboden House pay two workers’ bonuses

The Labour Court recommended that Ballyboden House pay one worker annual bonuses due for 1994 and 1995, and give a second worker a Christmas bonus on the same basis as other staff. The recommendation, involving Mandate, was signed on 19 June 1996. The Court found the annual bonus was part of the first worker’s conditions of employment and said any performance concerns should be handled through the parties’ grievance procedure. Mandate had argued the bonuses were withheld because the workers took part in 1994 industrial action; management rejected the claim and said the payments were performance-related.
