In 1996, the Labour Court recommended that Duffy Group Ltd concede an extra pay increment to all staff at its Londis supermarket in Blakestown. The Court found the industrial action was contrary to the Programme for Competitiveness and Work and that there were no grounds to show the shop’s pay rates were inappropriate. Mandate sought Joint Industrial Council rates, while the company argued Joint Labour Committee rates were appropriate for a small standalone shop. The Court urged the parties to agree a procedural agreement and said individual concerns about pay rates should be addressed through the appropriate process. The recommendation was dated 18 June 1996.
