In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that Irish Distillers agree a 3% P.E.S.P. pay increase for about 400 workers in return for fortnightly pay and electronic time-recording. The increase was to take effect from 1 September 1992.
The unions representing the workers were the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, Technical Engineering and Electrical Union, Union of Construction and Allied Trades Technicians, Manufacturing Science Finance, and Irish Distillers Staff Association. Workers had rejected the company's proposals by ballot. The Court considered the requested changes consistent with Clause 3 of the programme.
