The Labour Court recommended a redundancy package for workers affected by the closure of Coca Cola (Athy International Concentrates)’ Athy plant, including six weeks’ pay per year of service, a €10,000 wind-down payment and a €2,500 education grant for vouched training. The recommendation was signed on 7 September 2018 after a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU). SIPTU sought at least terms matching the 2007 Drogheda closure package, while the company offered six weeks’ pay per year of service plus statutory redundancy, capped at 2.5 years’ pay. The Court also recommended one year of extended health and other cover after redundancy, and a three-month cooling-off period for transfers to Ballina.
