The WRC disallowed Brian Holden’s appeal for a redundancy payment against Right Price Carpets & Furniture Centre (Cork) Limited, finding that he resigned on 4 July 2025. The decision was dated 5 August 2026. Holden said his work base was moved from Naas to Citywest, increasing his travel time and costs, and argued that his job had become redundant. The company said he resigned rather than accept suitable alternative employment. The adjudication officer found the Citywest role was suitable: his delivery duties and terms remained unchanged apart from a salary increase. The officer accepted that the move increased Holden’s commute and costs and found that meaningful consultation should have taken place. She nevertheless found his refusal unreasonable, citing the salary increase, flexibility and unchanged duties and conditions. As he had resigned and refused suitable alternative employment, the appeal was disallowed.
