The Labour Court recommended that two Aer Lingus engineers redeployed to Dublin after the Shannon base closure be facilitated with exits on the 2012 severance terms, with timing arranged to limit disruption to the Dublin base. The recommendation was signed on 7 September 2018. The Court said the terms could still apply to nine engineers redeployed to Dublin but not to four engineers still based in Shannon. It also recommended offering any new Shannon engineering positions arising in 2019 or 2020 first to seven Dublin-based engineers redeployed after the closure. Unite represented the workers. The union said Aer Lingus had honoured existing agreements through 2017; the company said the roles were not redundant and needed backfilling.
