In 2001, the Labour Court recommended amendments to Bus Eireann's draft productivity and flexibility agreement for about 176 craftworkers. The recommendation was signed on 1 November 2001. It included a conditional £3,000 lead-in payment if the unions accepted the full package. ICTU Group of Trade Unions, Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union sought changes to hours, contractor use, work practices, pay and severance terms. Bus Eireann opposed further increases beyond its existing offer. The Court recommended safeguards on contractor use and consultation, at least 28 days' notice of proposed roster changes, and acceptance of a Limerick shift-pattern change with a reduced premium.
