The Labour Court recommended that Abbott Ireland Limited amend its offer in a wage dispute involving about 340 workers at its Sligo plant. The recommendation was dated 17 July 1991. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought to retain a five-minute tea break. The company said removing it would support competitiveness and protect employment. The Court found the union’s case for retaining the break unsustainable in light of the proposed reduction in weekly hours. It recommended a one-off payment of £230 in the company’s restructured offer and recommended that the workers accept the amended offer.
