The Labour Court recommended that Irish Cement Limited include redundancies up to and including July 1988 in its savings-sharing arrangement, known as the POT, and make no further additions after that date. The recommendation was signed on 9 January 1989. The Group Of Unions argued that the arrangement should continue to cover further redundancies under a later survival plan. Irish Cement said the 1984 arrangement had ended and the later plan was a different package. The Court noted the parties had no specific written agreement on how long the POT would last.
