The Labour Court recommended that the Irish Transport And General Workers Union accept Irish Shell’s decision to transfer a driver from Shannon to tanker-driving duties in Limerick. The recommendation was signed on 10 January 1989. Irish Shell said Shannon was overmanned and it needed a driver in Limerick. It chose the worker based on his service at Shannon, qualifications and experience. The union objected, arguing the transfer would reduce his allowances and return him to onerous driving duties. The Court considered the selection criteria fair and objective.
