The Labour Court overturned an out-of-time ruling and found Michael Joyce entitled to statutory redundancy pay from his former employer, Frank Mchale Trading As Stacks Bar. The decision was signed on 2 July 2024. Joyce had worked at the bar from 2007, including a period of lay-off during the pandemic. After returning for four or five weeks, he was made redundant when the business closed. The Court accepted his uncontested evidence and said his redundancy payment must be calculated using weekly pay of €600, for service from 1 January 2007 to 21 April 2022. It set aside the Adjudicator’s decision that the complaint was time-barred.
