The Labour Court directed Securitas Security Services (Ire) Ltd to pay Lukasz Nowak €2,500 compensation after finding it wrongly refused force majeure leave for 29 May 2024. The decision, signed on 4 April 2025, varied the Adjudication Officer’s ruling, which had awarded the same amount. Nowak, a security officer, sought leave while his wife needed care after an unforeseen hospital readmission. The Court found his immediate presence was indispensable on 29 May and that he could not be penalised for failing to complete a form the employer had not supplied. It rejected his claim to leave for 30 and 31 May, finding the urgency had passed and the circumstances were foreseeable.
