WRC lacked jurisdiction over Healy’s parental leave complaint

By Aoife Loughran

The Workplace Relations Commission lacked jurisdiction to hear Lorna Healy’s Parental Leave Act complaint because it was brought against the wrong legal entity. The decision, dated 29 May 2026, says the complaint named Berkshire Hathaway Insurance, while Healy’s contract and payslips identified Resolute Management Limited as her employer. Healy said she believed Berkshire Hathaway European Insurance Limited employed her. The WRC found the complaint named neither that entity nor Resolute Management Limited, and that it had no statutory power to substitute one legal entity for another. The merits of the complaint were not decided.
