The Labour Court has recommended pay rises and changes to work arrangements for about 100 PE crew workers at GMC. Its recommendation, dated 9 October 2023, followed a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU). The Court recommended raising main layers’ pay from €22.82 to €24.96 an hour and service layers’ pay from €20.48 to €22.82, backdated to 1 June 2023. It also recommended €400 a week for qualified PE staff required to be on the on-call roster and a €750 voucher for eligible staff who average at least one week on call in three. GMC said it wanted to respond to falling demand for domestic gas and reduce the risk of future redundancies. SIPTU said the productivity measures GMC sought in return for pay increases were outside the norm. The recommendation also covers work locations, resource sharing and technology, and calls for the parties to engage on a vehicle tracker policy.
