In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Nenagh Co-Operative Society Limited’s proposals to settle a dispute over a 39-hour week for about 80 workers. The recommendation was signed on 20 February 1992. The union had sought a 38-hour week and £1,500 for each worker. The company’s proposals included revised working arrangements and a once-off £1,000 payment for affected workers changing from the previous Sunday-payment method. The Court considered management’s proposals more advantageous to workers in both the long and short term.
