The Labour Court found the Rehabilitation Institute was not acting unreasonably in selecting a worker at its Sligo centre for redundancy. It did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union’s claim. The recommendation was signed on 13 June 1988. The union challenged the selection of the concrete products unit supervisor and argued that the Institute should follow a last in, first out policy. The Institute said the unit repeatedly failed sales and training viability criteria and could not support the supervisor’s salary. The Court backed the selection in the circumstances it considered.
