In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that the North Eastern Health Board give two part-time telephonists pro-rata incremental credit. It also recommended further local discussions about additional hours. The recommendation was signed on 9 June 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union had sought improved grading and overtime arrangements for the workers at the County Hospital in Dundalk. The Board said it lacked authority to grant incremental credit and opposed assigning the telephonists additional hours, citing the extra cost.
