The Labour Court rejected Offray Ribbon Limited’s appeal and upheld the finding that a female supervisor’s continuing lower pay was based on sex. In a determination signed on 6 December 1996, the Court amended the effective date: she was entitled to equal pay with Mr Beattie from July 1994. The worker was represented by Manufacturing Science Finance. The Court accepted that experience and qualifications could justify lower pay at the outset, but found they no longer justified the difference after the worker had shown she could do the job and matched the comparators’ experience.
