In 1996, the Labour Court recommended no further concessions on a claim by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for compensation for catering workers at St. Stephen's Psychiatric Hospital in Cork. The recommendation was signed on 6 December 1996. The union said introducing cook chill added work and responsibility. Southern Health Board said the system followed consultation and agreement, and that it had made concessions, including offering one extra day of annual leave. The Court found that management had made concessions at various stages and saw no grounds for recommending further concessions.
