The Workplace Relations Commission has directed Eurotech Renewables Ltd to pay plumber Malachy Duffy €491.73 after finding the company failed to give him written particulars of a wage deduction at least a week before making it. The dispute followed work installing a hot water cylinder at a customer’s home in Galway. The company said damage required replacement and attributed €1,100 in repair costs to the work. Duffy said he believed the job was satisfactory and his supervisor had signed it off. The adjudicator found the deduction fair and reasonable and permitted by Duffy’s contract, but upheld the complaint because the required written notice was not provided in time. The decision was dated 18 October 2024.
