The Workplace Relations Commission found that the National Ambulance Service worker Neil Coleman was not entitled to an Advanced Paramedic allowance in his new role, and rejected his Payment of Wages complaint. The decision was dated 29 February 2024.

Coleman said the allowance’s withdrawal reduced his wages by €10,120. The Service said his new clerical and administrative role did not qualify for the clinical allowance, and that an earlier assurance from HR was an error. It offered him a return to his former role, which he declined.

The officer described the situation as unfortunate and financially harmful, but found the allowance was not properly payable in the new position. The complaint was therefore not well founded.
