The Workplace Relations Commission awarded James Nolan €1,310.40 net compensation after finding that his employer unlawfully stopped his wages during a five-week lay-off. The decision was dated 6 September 2023. Nolan said he was told to go home when a Galway job ended in February 2023 and received no contact for five weeks. The employer cited difficulties finding work and said messages had not reached him. The adjudicator found there was no adequate notice of a temporary lay-off and no written employment terms covering lay-offs. Five other complaints were withdrawn by agreement after the parties settled those matters.
