Redundancy claim against Clane Inn fails

The WRC rejected Ilona Brede’s claim for a statutory redundancy payment after finding that suitable alternative work had been available and she declined it without a realistic explanation. Brede, a chef who had worked for Clane Inn Limited since 2006, said she sought redundancy after being laid off during the Covid period and was offered a job in Clane instead of her former position in Naas. The company said it offered comparable work in Clane at €12.50 an hour and later offered her former Naas job back. The adjudication officer found that she had unreasonably refused suitable work under the Redundancy Payments Act. The decision was dated 16 January 2023.
