The Workplace Relations Commission upheld a London-based doctor’s unfair dismissal complaint against Altada Technology Solutions Limited (in liquidation) and ordered €16,814 in compensation. The decision was dated 16 January 2024.

Eugene O’Connor worked mainly in London and travelled to the company’s Cork headquarters. The adjudication officer found that he was an employee under the Unfair Dismissals Act, based on his working and contractual arrangements. The company did not engage with the WRC, and its liquidator did not attend or take part.

O’Connor said he was told by telephone on 26 February 2022 that his contract was ending, without substantive reasons or a fair inquiry. The officer found he had been unfairly dismissed. Because the company was in liquidation, compensation was the only available remedy.

The officer said the evidence of losses caused by the dismissal was inadequate, so compensation was set at one month’s gross pay: €16,814.
