Labour Court upholds decision in paternity leave appeal

The Labour Court upheld the decision against Lucas Augusto De Lorenzo in his paternity leave appeal, finding that he had not given the required four weeks’ written notice. The Court dated its decision 24 November 2023. De Lorenzo said Dolphin Brothers Renewable Energies Limited had not facilitated his request for paternity leave when his son was born in January 2023. He confirmed he had not notified the employer in writing at least four weeks in advance, as required for statutory paternity leave. The adjudication officer had found the complaint not well founded after De Lorenzo did not attend that hearing; the merits were not decided there.
