The Labour Court recommended an external review of industrial relations at Nexans Ireland Limited before it considers a union claim for an allowance for workers operating ink-jet machinery. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the company were each to nominate an expert, with the company covering the cost. The union said the company had ignored an engineer’s report on the allowance. Nexans Ireland Limited cited financial losses and said workers had refused to operate the machines despite a 1992 agreement. The Court described workplace relations as particularly bad and said the underlying problems should be addressed urgently. It signed the recommendation on 23 March 2004.
