The Labour Court recommended that Staunton's Sports / Elvery's pay Chris Dowling €6,000 compensation after finding the employer failed to follow proper procedures before dismissing him. The recommendation was signed on 17 December 2002. The Court said Dowling received no warnings under normal disciplinary procedures and was not told his job was in jeopardy before his dismissal. It found the procedural failure breached the Code of Practice on Grievance and Disciplinary Procedures. The company said it had held meetings with him and told him he was not satisfactorily meeting the people characteristics for the job.
