Labour Court recommends €1,000 settlement for TBD Developments worker

In 2002, the Labour Court recommended a €1,000 settlement for a worker dismissed by TBD Developments Limited, inclusive of the earlier €450 minimum-notice award. The decision was signed on 18 December 2002. The Court agreed the dismissal was not unreasonable but found the procedures and manner of dismissal fell short of the standard expected of a reasonable employer. The union argued the worker was denied fair procedures, representation and an opportunity to appeal. The company said the worker was dismissed for gross misconduct after what it described as an abusive and threatening exchange with a contracts manager.
