The Labour Court rejected a train driver's claim over two days' withheld pay, accepting Iarnrod Eireann was entitled to treat his absence as unauthorised. The recommendation was signed on 29 April 2002. The worker, represented by the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union, said he had not been told the two days' pay would be deducted. Iarnrod Eireann said it believed he had obtained a medical certificate after annual leave was refused and noted that he attended an ASLEF meeting while on sick leave. The charges relating to 30 September were withdrawn. A separate two-day unpaid suspension had not yet been implemented.
