In 2001, the Labour Court did not recommend the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for a rent allowance for firefighters at Dundalk & Drogheda Fire Service. The union said the national pay deal included the allowance. The Court found no new criteria qualifying the claimants for it and said allowances paid by other fire services were not sufficient grounds. Its recommendation was signed on 7 November 2001.
