In 2001, the Labour Court did not recommend the Building And Allied Trades Union’s claim for on-call access and compensation for a foreman carpenter at St James Hospital. The union said he had lost call-out earnings and related entitlements after taking the post. The hospital said his contract did not provide for an on-call allowance and he had not been required to perform on-call duties. The Court recommended that the issue be addressed in wider discussions. Its recommendation was signed on 8 November 2001.
