The Labour Court recommended that a staff nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar accept the Western Health Board’s offer in settlement of her claim over a roster change. The recommendation was dated 15 November 2000. The union had sought £10,000 compensation and an additional £8,000 for future earnings loss and stress.

The nurse had worked a week-on, week-off night shift for eight years before a new rotation system also rostered her for day shifts. The union said the change was not negotiated with it or discussed with the nurse, and that no transition arrangement had been made. The Board said the roster was agreed with nursing staff to distribute night and weekend work fairly, and that it had made a good offer.

The Court found the Board’s offer fair and reasonable and recommended that the nurse accept it. The source does not give the amount of that offer.
