The Labour Court recommended that a part-time warehouse operative at Tayto Limited’s Tralee depot accept the company’s proposal to pay him for 30 hours’ work a week and its retrospection terms. The recommendation was dated 10 November 2000. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought a higher hourly rate and a forklift allowance, saying the worker’s duties and skills matched those of a storesperson at the company’s New Ross depot. Tayto said the depots had different responsibilities and argued that its offer of extra paid hours, a mid-year week’s pay and an enhanced Christmas bonus was fair. Tayto accepted that a shunt-grade payment was due. The Court recommended that it be paid from the start of the worker’s employment.
