The Labour Court recommended that SPS Unbrako increase its redundancy package from four to four and a half weeks’ pay per year of service. The recommendation, dated 4 July 2000, followed a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union over terms for workers made redundant. The unions had sought five weeks’ pay plus statutory entitlements for each service year, as well as minimum notice of eight weeks and a reference period based on the best 13 weeks of the previous 52. The company had offered four weeks’ pay per service year, including statutory entitlements.
