In 1997, the Labour Court recommended a joint review of standards for five jobs at Unifi Textured Yarns Europe's Letterkenny plant. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the proposed changes would increase workloads by about 15% without higher pay; the company said methods had changed. The Court said standards should change only where labour, methods or materials had changed, or there had been a clerical error. It recommended that the union's and company's industrial engineers compare the old and new standards and agree an appropriate standard for current work content within four weeks. The recommendation was dated 4 November 1997.
