In 1996, the Labour Court recommended that Irish Cable And Wire delay implementing its selection of one of three Team Managers for redundancy by one month, to allow time for a volunteer. It found the selection basis was not unfair in the circumstances. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union disputed the proposed reduction from three Team Managers to two, arguing there was no genuine redundancy and the longest-serving manager had been selected unfairly. The company said it needed to retain the strongest supervisory skills and that a chargehand could take on the night-shift duties. The recommendation was dated 28 June 1996.
