Labour Court recommends £1,000 payment for Odlums packing-area workers

In 1994, the Labour Court recommended that Odlums Limited pay a £1,000 lump sum to workers directly connected with the small-packs packing area at its Portarlington plant. It recommended pro-rata payments for other workers based on time spent in the area during 1993. The recommendation was signed on 28 April 1994. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought compensation for workers beyond the packing area, arguing the new machine affected the wider production workforce. The Court did not recommend extending payments to workers outside the packing area and rejected the union’s claim for a general pay increase.
