Labour Court recommends H & N Engineering concede annual leave claim

In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that H & N Engineering concede the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers Union’s annual leave claim and negotiate on compassionate leave. The recommendation was dated 12 July 1993. The union said the company had stopped honouring an agreement counting Good Friday towards annual leave, reducing workers’ entitlement from 19 days to 18. It also said a worker’s request for payment after 1.50 days’ absence following a family bereavement had been ignored. The Court recommended immediate negotiations on compassionate leave and that the agreement in place since 1983 operate while they continued.
