In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that Ward International Limited restore two dismissed apprentices to their apprenticeships for the full duration. The dispute was referred by the National Engineering And Electrical Trade Union. The company said economic reasons prevented it from retaining them and that it had tried to place them with other local firms. The Court cited the longstanding industry practice of keeping apprentices in place until their training ends, except in the most serious circumstances. The recommendation was signed on 14 April 1992.
