Labour Court recommends £10,000 settlement for relocated Limerick locomotive drivers

The Labour Court recommended that Iarnrod Eireann relocate 33 locomotive drivers in Limerick to new premises at Colbert Station and increase its compensation offer to a £10,000 lump sum, divided among the drivers. The recommendation was signed on 18 October 1991. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had objected to the move, citing concerns about the building, route safety, efficiency and lost promotional opportunities. The Court said existing-agreement payments for additional walking time were the appropriate recognition of the longer walk, and recommended that the drivers accept the lump sum in full settlement of the dispute.
