In 1990, the Labour Court declined a union claim to upgrade eight multi-spindle operators at Turnex Limited from Grade IV to Grade V. The recommendation was signed on 20 June 1990. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that the operators’ workload had increased and cited quality-control staff who had moved to higher grades. Turnex disputed the workload claim and pointed to its financial position and recent improvements in employee conditions. The Court found no grounds to recommend the claim.
